In the world of media and conterversal adverstisement, having a viewpoint is a main focal point. Hello again readers, This blog is the first of a series that cover my research on vaping and its representation in the media. Within any research topic it is important to take into account these opposite sides that exist. In the world of vaping. the two main groups of people that have stakes in the argument are vapers (users of e-cigarettes), and parents and doctors. While teens are another party that is often brought up around the topic, teens that vape can be considered vapers for all instensive purposes.

In social media there does exist a vape culture. From cloud competitions to vaping instagram videos. the vape scene is defienely leaving some footprint in the media. The worry behind the media representation of vaping is that it highly suggests that it is a healthy hobby since it is a greater alternative to tobacco products. This may not be the case. Of all the ingredients that vape liquid contains, a liquid used my e-cigarettes to create the vapor, one of the most referred to is nicotine. Nicotine is widly known for being an addictive substance. Also, nicotine has toxic properties that make it a unsafe for human consumption. It is reccomended that nicotine shouldnt be allowed for use by teenagers or childern since it can have bad effects on their developing brain (Samadi). Nicotine isnt the only ingredient under research.

Propelyne Glycol is another common ingredient that can be found in e-cigarette liquids. This substance is deemed generally safe by the FDA, but it is found that continious exposre to propelyne glycol can lead to irritantion of the skin or of nasal or oral passages. The containment of substances like these in the vapor loqiod is enough to justify an argument agaisnt vaping. Concerened parents lead the pact for this side. Parents come into this topic through relation to teens are their suspetibility to picking up vaping. It is found that the large amount of teens think vaping is healthy since it is better then smoking tobacco, teens that believe this are at a higher chance of trying smoking with an e-cigarette (Propylene 2015).

The abundance and easy accessability to teens is another worry for parents. E-cigarettes can be found in the big supermarket stores like walmart. This availabilty to the public is worry some, but due to the current regulations of the FDA nicotine replacement therapies, of which e-cigarettes are classified as, they are allowed to be sold over the counter (U.S. Food 2015). The argument of whether or not e-cigarettes should be sold over the counter is a question that provokes two vaild opinions. While worried parents are justified for fighting to elimitante access to potenital harmful device from their kids, smokers wishing to cut tobacco should be able to reap the benefits of this healthier alternative.
